However, if Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga is telling you that the President is homophobic, I think you should consider the homophobic letter that Moulitsas Zúñiga himself published in his college newspaper, in which he vehemently opposed ALL gay service in the US military and ridiculed Bill Clinton for his efforts to let gays serve openly in the military.
If you want to blame someone for "don't ask, don't tell," then blame the ex-military people like Moulitsas Zúñiga who raised their voices in unison against gays in the military back in 1993, when Bill Clinton made gays in the military one of his first priorities after taking office.
Sure, that Moulitsas Zúñiga letter is from 1993, when Moulitsas Zúñiga was a college freshman. But since that time Moulitsas Zúñiga also spent two years training with the CIA, voted for George H.W. Bush, and worked on the campaign of Republican Henry Hyde (anti-abortion). And remember, Moulitsas Zúñiga wrote the above letter just after Bill Clinton was elected (1992) inaugurated (January 1993), with the purpose of the Moulitsas Zúñiga letter being to prevent Bill Clinton from immediately making good on his promise to let gays serve openly in the military.
Just look at the links in the sidebar of this blog for proof of all of the above beyond a shadow of a doubt. Moulitsas has admitted to writing the above letter, and he says he was an "asshole" for his position back then. I agree with him on that point.
MAMZ Admits He Was An "Asshole" When He Campaigned Against Gays in the Military
But Moulitsas Zúñiga is still an "asshole". The director of Moulitsas Zúñiga's YearlyKos pseudo "progressive" bloggers' gathering, Gina Cooper, told the Washington Post, "I hate using the word 'diversity' ".
Say what you will about President Obama. Only time will tell what he actually does to help gay people to be a more equally accepted part of American society. But, for God's sake don't get your information and orientation about President Obama from a man who has written homophobic screeds against gay people and who admits he spent two years at the CIA training to be a secret agent.
