Four Blatant Lies In Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga's Interview with La Prensa Gráfica

MAMZ: Wealthy, Famous and Powerful in El Salvador;
'Poor Immigrant' to United States,
Born in Chicago, IL.

Hat Tip to "Socrates" for the Google Way Back link to Markos Moulitsas interview with El Salvador's La Prensa Gráfica online newspaper (in Spanish). Fortunately, I graduated magna cum laude in Spanish from Rhode Island College and have communicated in Spanish in Chile, Peru, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. (I've never been to El Salvador and, having discovered Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga (MAMZ's) right-wing pressure group connections there, I don't think I ever will be welcomed into El Salvador and then welcomed back out again.

Liar, Liar, False Attire!

Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga (MAMZ) must believe he's the only bilingual person in the United States who can compare what's in Spanish-language papers with what MAMZ tells us in the USA. Does he think Americans are illiterate, does he believe we're all stupid, or both? I don't know if MAMZ can read Spanish, but I know that he knows that I can.

truth about kos,Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas ZIGA,CIA,francis l. holland

If you look at the article from El Salvador's La Prensa Gráfica online newspaper (see screenshots above and below) from Google's "way back machine"), you will see four blatant lies that Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga (MAMZ or "Kos" of DailyKos), told to the Spanish-language online newspaper, La Prensa Gráfica.

In this conversation with writer Jesús Henríquez, who is quoting MAMZ, MAMZ says (see underlined in red in the screenshot above):
  1. Eu não tengo dinheiro. ("I don't have money.")
  2. Yo no vengo de una familia famosa o poderosa. ("I don't come from a famous or powerful family.")
  3. Yo no vengo de una familia famosa o poderosa. ("I don't come from a famous or powerful family.")
  4. Yo era un inmigrante en Estados Unidos. ("I was an immigrant in the United States.")

Lie Number One: How can MAMZ say, "I don't have money," when his "family hotel," the Jaltepeque Suites Hotel, is on the wealthiest and longest stretch of beachfront property in El Salvador and the hotel charges $140.00 US Dollars per night for a hotel room?

When MAMZ says in his wedding album that his festivities were held at his "family hotel", either he is using the word "family" very loosely or he thinks that being part of a family that charges $140.00 US Dollars per night in Central America qualifies as not having "any money," even though that amount of money is roughly one tenth the family income of most Salvadoran families for a year!

In any case, MAMZ either had sufficient money or sufficient free use of the "family" hotel to host his entire wedding party there and take boat trips.

That's lie number one: "I don't have any money", (but my family owns beachfront land and charges $140.00 USD per night for a hotel room.

Lie Number Two: that he doesn't come from a famous family. The same Carlos Eduardo Delgado Zúniga, owner of the international Baja Salt Group (see screenshot immediately below; and he is listed in Salvadoran Government documents as "manager" of the Zúñiga family hotel; is also the president of CASATUR (the Salvadoran National Tourism Association); as well as president of the Salvadoran Hotel Association. Just look him up in the Europa World Book! (See screenshots below.)

Anyone who is listed in the Europa World Book is "famous", particularly if he is also owner of a Central American salt distributorship with operations on five continents and president of a nation's tourism and hotel business groups. The inevitable conclusion is that MAMZ lied with respect to whether he came from a "famous family."

Lie Number Three: It is obvious simply from the above that Lic. Carlos Eduardo Delgado Zúñiga is powerful throughout El Salvador and the reach of his Central American salt distributorship. But he is also a Salvadoran representative to FEDECATUR, the Central American Tourism Board! If that were not enough, Lic. Carlos Eduardo Delgado Zúñiga, who also gives newspaper interviews, is also a representative to the Salvadoran National Association for Private Enterprise (ANEP), which the CIA calls a right-wing "pressure group."

In addition, Carlos Eduardo Delgado Zúñiga is a member of the “Junta Directiva” of the “Sistema de Integración de Centroamerica” (System for Integration of Central America).,

Is it possible to square all of the interlocking directorates for tourism with MAMZ statement that his family is neither famous nor powerful? In fact, the assertion that MAMZ's family is not powerful, which was a quote made to La Prensa Gráfica, is a gratuitous bold-faced lie, unless there is an underlying reason to disregard the truth in such a blatant and public manner. There is simply no way whatsoever to square MAMZ's lie with the Internet-documented truth.

Lie number four: MAMZ says, "I was an immigrant in the United States," (see underlined in red in screenshot above) but even MAMZ's own DailyKos biography and his Wikipedia page say that he was born on September 11, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. However, the article he wrote for the American Prospect mentions Chicago, but does not mention that he was born there. It only says that he had a "funny accent", intentionally leaving the impression that he was born somewhere else. Is it possible for MAMZ to write truthfully that he is "an immigrant in the United States" AND that he was born in Chicago, IL? MAMZ says it is possible, however, the US Code disagrees with him:

Prev | Next
The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
(a) a person born in the United States

As stated in The Indictment of Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas ZÚÑIGA by Justice and History (Updated with Additional Information and Counts),

2). Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas ZÚÑIGA was born in Chicago, not in El Salvador. Therefore, he is a US citizen and is NOT and never was an immigrant, in spite of his habitual assertions to the contrary.

I simply don't understand why Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga (MAMZ) tells so many lies about himself and his family that are so easily disproved. Although he has never provided this identity information, with respect to the names of his parents, to a United States newspaper to the best of my knowledge, La Prensa Gráfica states as fact that, "Markos Moulitsas es hijo de María Teresa Zúniga de Funes, salvadoreña, y de Markos Moulitsas, griego."

Maria Elizabeth ZÚÑIGA de Delgado is listed in Salvadoran Government documents as “Alternate Administrator” of Proturo, S.A. de S.V., which is also known as Baja Salt Group where, once again, Lic. Carlos Eduardo Delgado Zúñiga is listed as"Central American Distributor."

Is it possible that MAMZ says, "I don't have any money" because he doesn't want to pay his income taxes? Or is it because being a poor and humble immigrant from Central America is part of his CIA cover story, which he learned (but not very well), during his self-acknowledged two-year training period, from 2001 until 2003, during the time when he started his DailyKos blog.

Markos C. Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga is a self-made man, an immigrant born in Chicago who doesn't have any money, although his family owns Baja Salt Group, Proturo C.A. de S.V., the Jaltepeque Suites Hotel, and the Club Jewel of the Pacific, a hotel and condominium conglomerate. In a word, MAMZ is a perennial liar.

Moulitsas acts stupid in regards to the CIA's involvement in El Salvador. This guy is so busted, Francis. And the assholes over at My Left Wing were either incredibly dumb or part of a disinformation racket. What part of his family owning a fancy hotel in a poor country or the fact that he blamed death and destruction on the rebels so hard to understand? I think Kos is a disinfo agent. I don't think he is a grifter. I think he's part of some modern form of FBI cointelpro. His role has been to quell positive social movement in America. He did this by co-opting the progressive label and replacing it with an insidious agenda. He is part of a fifth column. He is an enemy of peace and social justice.

Death Squads in El Salvador:
A Pattern of U.S. Complicity
by David Kirsch
Covert Action Quarterly, Summer 1990

...there is compelling evidence to show that for over 30 years, members of the U.S. military and the CIA have helped organize, train, and fund death squad activity in El Salvador.

But this scumbag says the CIA is a liberal institution he'd have no trouble working for. He says he's unaware of their past. This is why the "Truth about Kos" is spinned into some kind of personal vendetta on your part. Unless someone is a complete moron, if they look into this even a bit, it's clear as spring water that this guy is the personification of mendacity.

Markos Moulitsas is an evil piece of crap. By the way, I think archive.org is a totally separate entity from google. No biggie. The main thing is for people to know that he kisses CIA ass and runs interference for death squads in a country in which his family rakes in big time bucks.

Because what I report is copiously documented in US and Salvadoran government records, websites owned by the Zúñiga family, and interviews MAMZ and Carlos Eduardo have given to the media in the US and in El Salvador, I don't think it makes a whiff of difference what my motive is for reporting the truth.

When there is doubt as to the truth, then discovering bias on the part of witnesses is important. When the truth is printed in Government documents, it really doesn't matter WHAT my motives are for presenting those documents to the public.

If I say it is raining and you look outside and confirm the fact, does my motive for informing you help in any additional way to determine whether it is raining or not? In fact, my motive then becomes irrelevant to the issue of whether it is raining or not.

If you have a person's fingerprints on the murder weapon and a video of him shooting someone, as well as government documents recording his arrest, trial, conviction and imprisonment, does it make any difference to the truth of the matter what my motive is for presenting that evidence to you?

Some people at DailyKos insist that any conceivable ulterior motive for presenting that information would be sufficient reason to discount all of that documented proof. I happen to disagree with them, and I believe the people visiting the 1.560.000 Google hits for "Kos" + "CIA" also believe that discovering the truth is more important than worrying over the reporter's motive for presenting the truth.

This is why people at DailyKos were caught flat-footed on the John Edwards/Reille Hunter sex and payola scandal. They believed that the National Enquirer's motive for presenting the truth was more important than the affair itself. Obviously, most of America disagrees with that perspective, and that's why John Edwards' friends and his political committees had to spend so much money trying to keep the affair a secret.

If I ever read "Alice in Wonderland," I'm sure I'll see "DailyKos in CIA-land" all throughout the novel.

I would love to look at MAMZ's tax returns to see if they still say, "No tengo dinheiro"?

We are all unique, but the truth is universal. Or as a reporter friend puts it, it's not libel if it's true.

The worst part of all this is how the earthy, crunchy granola peaceniks and progressives have been knocked away from the political dinner table. The Daily Kos is obviously a right wing rag. Places like Fox News are criminally fascistic.

I'd love to get in Kos' face and ask him about the right wing death squads. The truth is that Kos is also lying about having used to be a Reagan supporter. He still supports the Republican vision of Central America. This is an obvious call. It isn't rocket science to see he's putting blame on the rebels for historic bloodshed in El Salvador.

Great work, Francis! This guy comes from a filthy rich El Salvadoran family. He loves the CIA. He blames right wing death squads on the people who fought against them. If I was Kos, I'd stay away from any El Salvadorans who have relocated to California. He may be in for quite a beatdown. Kos is the Salvadoran equivalent of those crazy right wing Cubans in Florida. But unlike them, Kos attempts to portray himself as a liberal.

Francis, you've inspired me to make my own blog entry on this topic. It can be found here and here.

Thanks for covering this, Socrates.

I've been reluctant to get into the death squad part of the Zúñiga's history, because I couldn't find a lot of information about it.

However, I the Idictment of Markos Moulitsas by History and Justice (see link in side bar), we connected MAMZ to Carlos Delgado and Carlos Delgado is a representative to ANEP, which the CIA says was connected to death squad activity.

Do this: Lic. Carlos Alberto Delgado Zúñiga is a lawyer with offices in the center of El Salvador. Call his office and ask his secretary what Carlos' family relationship to Markos is. It's amazing that two years and 1.5 million google hits later, we still don't have the answer to that simple question, and Moulitsas ZUNIGA isn't talking.

Francis Holland said...

Socrates, there's no doubt that Moulitsas Zúñiga's family was on the right-wing side of the Salvadoran Civil War, and it was quite common at the time for the rich death squad supporters (like ANEP) to lie very casually about their support for the death squads.

Francis Holland said...

Socrates, I don't consider myself to be an amateur sleuth, particular compared to mainstream media coverage on this topic.

The mainstream media annoints Moulitsas a "leftist" when the most basic Google search proves that it's not true. Obviously, everything they write about him comes directly out of his own mouth with no effort to corroborate his story (with the exception of Jose Antonio Vargas who was at the Washington Post).

Meanwhile, I have more links to original sources in my blog posts (or just in the "Indictment") than can be found in all of the mainstream media articles about Markos Moulitsas put together.

Both of us should have become good bloggers in the big ponds. But the big cheeses at such places decided to be greedy about freedom of speech and association. Once in a while I have checked out the threads you put up at MyLeftWing. Peeder, the former techie for Kos, made a comment, to paraphrase, that if Kos hadn't run such an unfair ship, then people like yourself wouldn't have emerged to expose his sorry arse.

I don't blog too much these days. When I do, it's at my two places, here once in a while, and at a place called the-last-blog-left.blogspot. A guy named TLNL added a bunch of stuff. It shows Francis that this isn't the toughest story to get across to people.

If you slide down to the comments in this entry, that's where we get into your area.

This dude TLNL came up with a good link proving the obvious. The Moulitsas family was on the wrong side of history in El Salvador. I doubt his family was ever "middle class" in Chicago. I bet his family fled El Salvador, because rich stinking pigs don't like to get their heaqds chopped off when the masses revolt against oppression.

Kos Call
For America's number one liberal blogger
politics is like sports: It's all about winning.

By Benjamin Wallace-Wells

Moulitsas was born in Chicago to a middle class, ethnically-Greek family from El Salvador (his uncle, an architect, had briefly been that country's education minister). The family moved back to El Salvador when Moulitsas was four and was on the right-wing side of the Cold War proxy fight there. But as that war's intrusions became unbearable--Moulitsas talks about stepping over dead bodies--the family returned to Chicago, where he grew up, in his own words, "a loudmouthed nerd."

Socrates said, "I bet his family fled El Salvador, because rich stinking pigs don't like to get their heaqds chopped off when the masses revolt against oppression."

Word.

If MAMZ's family was "middle class" in the United States, I don't think they ever were in El Salvador. Not everyone (like MAMZ's parent) gets a visa to live or study in the US when there is a civil war going on in their country and the US is supporting the Government.

If they were middle class, how could they afford to live in Schuamberg Illinois?

If they were middle class, where did they get the money for tickets to the US and to pay out-of-state tuition at the University where his parents met?

Finally, how could they be middle class if their family owned a $140.00 per night hotel on the banks of the best beach in San Salvador, and how could they weasel their way into a seven hundred thousand dollar loan guarantee from the US Government's Overseas Private Investment Corporation?

MAMZ's family was never ever middle-class. Certainly not in MAMZ's lifetime.
